Havanese Dogs

What is a Havanese dog? Well, a Havanese, though often considered a purebred, is thought to be a cross between the now extinct Blanquito and Poodles.

They are a great toy dog variety, often growing to only 7-12 pounds as full grown adults. Havanese puppies are often lighter in color than the adults, who’s coat tends to turn dark in colors such as red, tan, cream, fawn, white, and black. The Havanese coat is straight yet slightly curvy, making grooming easy compared to many other breeds of curly hair. Havanese dogs are easily trained as puppies, because they may develop habits later in life.

Havanese Rescues

If you want to adopt a cute and cuddly Havanese puppy we suggest checking out one of your local dog rescues before heading over to the breeders. Why? Well, many dog breeders don’t always sell off their entire litter, which means that they are left with a puppy or more that they need to take care of

Taking care of a puppy is a lot of work for most professional breeders, especially if the puppy is getting too old to sell. Many are simply abandoned or given to local shelters, and need a permanent family. You may not get a small Havanese Puppy, but you’ll be giving a special little animal a home.

Havanese Breeders

The American Kennel Club gives Havanese Breeders quite a bit of leeway with Havanese puppies compared to many other breeds. Havanese puppies are allowed in a wide range of coat colors and patterns, as long as it’s parents a both purebreds. All Havanese pups must have a black nose (which is common to almost all dogs) and black pigment around it’s eyes. The one exception is with dark brown (chocolate) colored dogs which are allowed to have dark brown pigment around the eyes.

Based on that information, can you tell if the dog pictured in this section is an acceptable purebred or not?
